Laura’s love and passion for painting began at a young age, eventually securing her a position as director of a high-end art gallery in Dallas, Texas. Following the birth of her second child—and with a dream of creating accessible, yet upscale original art pieces for collectors like her own young family—Laura began more serious painting. After a year of focused painting, she and her husband learned that they were expecting twins, also discovering before birth that one of the babies was already battling a critical illness. Her twins were born prematurely and Hayes was hospitalized for the majority of his first year of life, undergoing five surgeries.

While her painting took a necessary backseat during this trying time, Laura realized the God-given miracle of Hayes’ life and eventual recovery, an experience that profoundly deepened her faith and impacted her perspectives in life-changing ways. Laura directed her efforts on the recovery and care of her family during this season, focused on facing the challenges within her family for the next several years before she returned to painting. The ever-oscillating emotions that result from small victories and fearful uncertainty, the duality of calm and chaos, and the unique blend of grief and joyfulness ultimately became the foundation and inspiration for Laura’s body of work moving forward. Each observer of Laura’s work is able to sense this tension and contrast, not only in medium and texture, but in the story and meaning behind each piece: turbulent times in our lives are paired with periods of calm and joy. Her primary hope is that her God-given talents reflect and celebrate His creation, not only in the natural world, but in the creation of individual stories and personal journeys.
